Mistakes to avoid when washing your dog at home

1 - Using the wrong shampoo🚿

Error: "Oh, I'll just put my coconut shampoo on him, he'll smell good!"

⚠️ Bad idea! Dogs have a different pH from us, and a product that is too aggressive can irritate their skin.

Solution: Choose a shampoo specially designed for dogs, gentle and adapted to their coat.

2 - Skip the brushing step 🐕

Error: Plunging a tangled dog into water is like trying to wash a carpet full of knots... The result? Fur that's even more impossible to untangle!

Solution: A good brushing before the bath saves you the trouble (and a post-drying nervous breakdown).

3 - Water too hot or too cold: the fatal error 🌡

Error: Hot water and your dog thinks he's a cooking lobster. Freezing water and he looks at you like you're sending him into a Nordic bath.

Solution: Lukewarm, always lukewarm! (30-35°C, neither too hot nor too cold, like in a fairy tale 🐻).

4 - Pour water over his head directly 🚰

Error: A big splash of water on the head? Great... except that your dog might panic and turn your bathroom into an Olympic-size swimming pool.

Solution: Start with the back and legs, then gently clean the head with a damp glove.

5 - Forget to rinse well 🌊

Error: "It's good, it smells good, let's stop here!" No, because a residue of shampoo, and hop: scratching, irritation, rolling in the grass to "get rid of this horror".

Solution: Rinse, rinse again, and when you think you've finished... rinse one last time, just to be sure.

6 - Drying any way

Error: Vigorous towel rubbing? Be careful, you risk tangling the hair and ending up with a dog as dishevelled as a poodle in the wind.

Solution: Dab gently with a towel and use a hair dryer on low heat if your dog accepts it (if not, wait for the famous "I'm clean and crazy" sprint).

7 - Give him too many baths 🛁

Error: "But he smells so good afterwards, we could give him a bath every week!" Bad idea, because washing your dog too often can irritate his skin and strip him of his natural protective oils.

Solution: 1 bath a month (except for emergencies like "I've rolled in something filthy"), and in between, a no-rinse cleansing lotion or wipes to stay fresh.

With these tips, bathing becomes a moment of complicity (and no longer a commando mission). And for a dog that's always clean without too many baths, think of our cleansing wipes and no-rinse lotion.

💡 Bonus tip Always end with a treat and a cuddle.

Because after a bath, your dog deserves a reward... and so do you! 😉
